The news of Lincoln's closure is heart breaking! My family moved to the neighbourhood from Calgary at the end of December 1974 and we were the first students when Lincoln opened it's doors for the first time in Janurary of 1975. I know that you, (along with my little brother, Mark) were in the very first class to complete the entire eight years of elementry school there...That school was a huge part of your life!
I find it surprising that the current year's enrolment is only 141 students! If I remember right, there were about 200 of us in the beginning.
Thank you for your efforts to save this wonderful little school. I'm sure there are many families who are greatful to you for that.
Now that the decision has been made and nothing more can be done, there are a couple of things I'd like to see: *An opportunity for Lincoln alumni to visit the school one last time, just to reminisce and say goodbye. (I would be happy to volunteer my time to help make it happen.) *That the school board find good use for the building. I don't know what plans they might have for it, but I certainly hope they don't plan to demolish it!
